In February 2018 a first phase of the works was inaugurated,
with the remodelling of the service building and the new toilet
module, in May 2019 the Large Shed was opened for the first time
to the public and a new construction that was called Panoramic
Shed, a space for temporary exhibitions. In August 2019, the
composition of the Talgo II was rehabilitated and it was located
inside the Great Nave as the first heritage element of the
future museography.
In December 2018 the Ministry renewed its confidence in the
project of the Foundation and Adif making a new contribution of
€ 400,000 to finish the intervention started in 2010 of another
emblematic ship, that of the Bridge-Crane. This action has
allowed the union with the Gran Nave in 2021, thus increasing
the exhibition space by more than 1,700 m2. In 2019, the
commitment of a contribution of € 600,000 for the future
museography of the set was achieved. An intervention planned for
the end of 2022 that shows the decisive role of the railway as
an engine of innovation and progress in the contemporary world.
The most important project for the future is the coverage of the
historic vehicles that are on the outside of the Rotunda to
avoid their deterioration and ensure their preservation as well
as the general paving of the space as a whole so that all the
facilities are fully accessible. In parallel, the renewal of the
contents and of the informative and documentary work will
continue to create stories around the world of the trains that
sensitize the new generations of their value and the
contribution that their use makes to the common welfare and
sustainability of the planet.
